Banner County Highway Department

The Banner County Road Department's main responsibility is to maintain the 425 miles of road in the County. The department also is tasked with maintaining bridges, culverts, and road signs.

Included in these duties are graveling of roads, mowing, and snow removal. Additionally, I am in charge of helping prepare the Road Department's annual budget. I also have the responsibilities of completing the 1 & 6 Year Road Project Report, the Annual Equipment and Material Inventory Report, and the  Equipment Operation Cost Report.  Bridge Inspections are also performed and reported annually to the Nebraska Department of Roads, Bridge Division.

The Road Department is contracted with the United States Air Force to remove snow on approximately 61 miles of County road leading to 19 Air Force Missile sites and two command centers.

County Road Facts:

  • There are 557 miles of road in the County.

  • 425 miles are gravel and County maintained.

  • Six miles are paved.

  • 53 miles are classified as minimum maintenance.

  • At the present time the County is divided into three separate drag routes.
